Diffraction grating is composed of many gaps of the same width and spacing, so it can also be called a multi slit grating. There are many types of optical gratings, which can be classified according to different categories. According to light wave modulation, they can be divided into amplitude gratings and phase gratings; According to the space modulated by the incident wave, it can be divided into two-dimensional planar gratings and three-dimensional volume gratings; According to their working methods, they can be divided into transmission gratings and reflection gratings.

Amplitude grating

Amplitude grating: only produces n=0 and n=±1 diffraction orders. The n=0 diffraction order is also known as the DC term.

Phase grating: Phase grating is a type of "surface relief" grating with transmission function. When gt=1, the phase exhibits periodic changes and displays a sine curve.
